Cybersecurity made simple โ by people who have seen both sides
SecuritySage is a Lakewood, Ohio cybersecurity provider for startups and small businesses. We make complex digital security accessible, understandable and affordable.
SecuritySage provides simplified cybersecurity for startups and small businesses. We help organizations that do not have a dedicated security team understand their risks, fix what matters most and build lasting habits, all in plain English and without the fear-mongering that too often surrounds this field.
From IT security assessments and employee training to security policies, cloud configuration, phishing simulation and part-time security leadership, our services are designed around one simple idea: good security should be practical, affordable and understandable for businesses of every size.
Our mission
SecuritySage’s mission is to empower startups and small businesses by providing simplified, comprehensive cybersecurity solutions. We are committed to creating a safe digital environment that allows our clients to focus on growth and innovation while we manage their cybersecurity needs.
Our story
SecuritySage was born out of the vision of our founder, a former hacker turned cybersecurity advocate with over 15 years of industry experience. Having worked with an array of enterprises, small businesses, and startups, they’ve observed the challenges and pitfalls faced by organizations as they navigate the complex landscape of cybersecurity.
The founder started their journey as a curious hacker, drawn by the intricacies of the digital realm. Over time, they realized the potential havoc that security breaches could wreak on unsuspecting individuals and businesses. This realization sparked a transformation from a hacker into a cybersecurity champion, dedicating their skills to helping businesses protect their digital assets.
This journey inspired the creation of SecuritySage, a platform designed to demystify cybersecurity for businesses of all sizes. Our founder recognized that while large corporations often had dedicated security teams, startups and small businesses were often left exposed due to lack of resources or understanding of the cyber threats they faced. SecuritySage was developed to fill this gap, providing tailored, comprehensive, and simplified security solutions to these underserved businesses.
Today, SecuritySage continues to carry this vision forward. We understand that cybersecurity can be complex and overwhelming, but our team of experienced professionals is here to guide businesses every step of the way. With our trusted services and expertise, businesses can focus on what they do best, leaving their digital security to us. At SecuritySage, we strive to create a safer digital world where every business, no matter its size, can thrive without fear of cyber threats.
Leadership
Our founder brings 15 years of rich experience, working with enterprises, small businesses, and startups alike. Starting as a hacker, they’ve seen the cyber landscape from both sides and are now committed to fortifying it. With SecuritySage, this knowledge is now at your service, helping to secure your digital presence and propel your growth in the safest way possible.
Our founder, Dave, leads SecuritySage, and that background shapes how we operate: the same experience that once found weaknesses in systems is now used to close them, explained in language business owners can act on.

Our values
These values guide every recommendation we make and every conversation we have with clients.
Simplicity
Security does not have to be confusing. We explain risks and recommendations in plain English, cut the jargon and focus on the handful of actions that make the biggest difference. If we cannot explain something clearly, we keep working until we can.
Practicality
Small businesses have limited time and budgets. We recommend solutions that fit how you actually work, prioritize the changes that reduce the most risk for the least effort and never suggest a tool or process simply because it is fashionable.
Honesty
We tell you what we find, including the good news and the uncomfortable news. We do not exaggerate threats to sell services, and if something can safely wait, we say so. If you do not need us for a particular task, we will tell you that too.
Respect for people
Employees are not the weakest link; they are your first line of defense when they have the right knowledge. Our training and testing are supportive and blame-free, because people who feel safe reporting mistakes make a business far more secure.
Confidentiality
We see sensitive details about how our clients operate. We treat that information with the same care we ask clients to give their own data, sharing it only with the people who need it and protecting it throughout and after every engagement.
Continuous learning
Threats, tools and regulations change constantly. We keep learning so our clients do not have to track every development themselves, and we update our guidance as the landscape evolves.
How we work
Every engagement is different, but our approach follows the same four steps, whether you need a one-time assessment or ongoing guidance.
- Listen and understand. We start by learning about your business: what you do, how your team works, which systems you rely on, what data you handle and what worries you most. Security advice that ignores business context rarely gets followed.
- Assess and prioritize. We look at where you stand today and identify the risks that matter most for your business. Instead of a long list of every possible issue, you get a clear order of priorities based on real-world impact.
- Act together. We help you put improvements in place, whether that means configuring systems, writing policies, training your team or guiding your IT provider. Every recommendation comes with a plain-English explanation of what it does and why it matters.
- Review and grow. Security is not a one-time project. We check that changes are working, help you measure progress and adjust the plan as your business, your customers and the threats you face evolve.
Throughout, we keep communication simple. You will always know what we are doing, why we are doing it and what, if anything, we need from you.
Who we serve
SecuritySage works with organizations that need strong security but do not have, or do not need, a full-time security department. Our clients typically include:
- Startups building products and winning their first larger customers, who need to answer security questionnaires and set sound foundations early.
- Small businesses across industries that rely on email, cloud apps and connected devices every day and want to protect them without a large budget.
- Healthcare practices, such as medical, dental and therapy offices, that handle patient information and need to meet HIPAA expectations.
- E-commerce businesses that accept online payments, store customer data and need to align with PCI-DSS and protect their storefronts.
- Professional services firms, including accounting, legal, consulting and real estate practices, that hold confidential client information and are frequent targets of invoice and payment fraud.
- Nonprofits that manage donor and member data with small teams and tight budgets, and need practical, cost-effective protection.
If your organization does not fit neatly into one of these groups, that is fine. If you are a smaller organization trying to make sense of cybersecurity, we are here to help.
Our commitment to ethics
Our founder’s background gives us a clear view of both sides of the cyber landscape, and a firm belief that security skills must always be used responsibly. That shapes a few commitments we never compromise on.
Authorized testing only
We only assess, scan or test systems when the owner has given clear, written authorization, and we stay within the agreed scope and rules of engagement. That applies to every network review and every phishing simulation we run. We do not test third-party systems without their owner’s permission.
Confidentiality
Information about your systems, your findings and your business stays confidential. Findings are shared only with the people you designate, and we handle the data we collect during an engagement with care, keeping only what we need.
Vendor-neutral recommendations
Our recommendations are based on what fits your business, not on any vendor relationship. When we suggest a product or service, it is because we believe it is the right fit for your needs and budget. Often the best recommendation is to make better use of tools you already have.
Honest scope
We are clear about what our work covers and what it does not. We do not provide legal advice, and when a question calls for an attorney, an insurer or another specialist, we say so.
Based in Lakewood, serving clients nationwide
SecuritySage is based in Lakewood, Ohio, on the western edge of Cleveland, and we are proud to be part of the Northeast Ohio business community. Most of our work is delivered remotely, which means we serve startups and small businesses across the United States just as effectively as those down the street.
Remote delivery keeps our services affordable and flexible. Assessments, training sessions, policy workshops and virtual CISO meetings all work well over video calls and secure file sharing, and we schedule around your time zone and business hours.
Start a conversation
Whether you are not sure where to begin or already know what you need, we would be glad to hear from you. Tell us about your business, and we will suggest a practical next step, with no jargon and no pressure.
